And this is why I get out of bed and go to work...

A client told me how our work had affected their life, and I was surprised to say the least. I'm going to tell you what that client said in their post-trial interview. On reflection it summed up the thinking and reason why we put Clarinspect together, though the client phrased the outcome in a way we had not perceived before.

First, some background... As a co-founder I get lots of great jobs to do. So many that I thought about buying a hat-stand to hold all the hats I have to wear, however I would get whiplash if I ever tried to change real hats that quickly. One of those jobs is to interview clients to check that we have achieved the outcomes we set at the beginning of a trial, and if the client has hit their desired outcomes.

We look for primary and secondary benefits.

The primary benefits appeal to the organisation. These include savings in time and money, reduced process latency, and reduced risk. In general they are measurable.

Helping an organisation achieve these outcomes ticks my boxes, and puts a grin on my face.

The secondary benefits are those aspects of using the system that are intangible, and not generally the reason why an organisation buys the system, but why users stay with the system.

Secondary benefits are those that arise due to the impact of the system on the users or the wider business ecology. Secondary benefits arise from a minor change in a process, an improvement in dataquality, ease of data entry, or the report generation inherent in Clarinspect.

We have heard about the improved quality in their reports, how staff feel good about writing documents again. We have heard about having pride in the quality of the work produced, and how staff are able to focus on the job in hand and don't have to struggle to read and interpret, or remember, the meaning of their scribbled, handwritten notes.

In the latest interview an engineer said ...

...I haven't needed to take work home for the three weeks I've been trialling the system.

This engineer had been able to spend evenings with their children.

And there we have it. I have helped someone get a part of their life back. As a working parent I can appreciate the importance of that change.

And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is what gets me out of bed.
